    Why I Don’t Follow the Mainstream Media - Summary (1 of 5)

    By Life-Musings.com | February 15, 2009

I no longer have the newspapers delivered to my home daily. It has been that way for a few years now. I barely read them, and I rarely watch the news on television, too. In general, I follow the mainstream media very little nowadays.

I stopped watching the news and reading the newspapers partly because of laziness, and partly because I found that it was doing my psyche more harm than good.

In the course of my work, I come across a lot of alternative viewpoints on many issues. I no longer doubt the objectivity and even sanity of the mainstream media. In fact, I am convinced its ‘trust-ability’ is very low indeed.

People who do not follow the news on the mainstream media are often criticized, mainly for living in a shell and not knowing “what is happening in the world”.

To that, I have a few questions.

    1. Do you honestly think that what is on the mainstream media is really “what is happening in the world”? How big a portion of reality does it portray?

    2. Do you realize that you are being brainwashed by the media every day?

    3. Do you realize that the mass mainstream media is a large fear-mongering machine?

    4. Do you know that constant bad news is extremely bad for your health; not just physical, but emotional and mental, too?

I have stopped watching the news or reading the papers for a good few years now. And, quite honestly, I do not find myself any worse off.

I have other sources of information, some of which are non-mainstream media. And, the biggest news would always get to me, somehow, without me needing to seek them out.

The above points are discussed in more detail in the subsequent articles.

In summary, I will say that the mainstream media has certain agendas. A truly independent thinking individual will know to take it with not so much a pinch of salt, but a whole barrel of it.

If we really want the latest NEWS on various subjects, we need to seek them out. There is a lot out there which is censored or conveniently hidden from public view. Look for them. You’ll be surprised.
