Stampede at Walmart in New York

    By Life-Musings.com | December 24, 2008

Quite recently, there was a piece of news of hectic shopping taking place in a Walmart store in New York.

There was early morning shopping, there was a long queue of shoppers waiting outside the door, the doors opened at 5am or so, and everyone rushed right in. And guess what happened?

There was a stampede, and the crazed shoppers trampled a 30 plus year old Walmart employee to death.

This wasn’t in some dingy, uncivilized, uncouth country or society; it was in New York, right in the United States of America. (although some may argue that those adjectives apply precisely to the US)

What is going on in the modern world, when we become so hard up on material stuffs that such a thing can happen? Have we scant regard for human life? What’s this about herd mentality? Isn’t it frightening?

So this is civilization, this is progress?
