Poverty, Hunger and Starvation; A Sobering Perspective – Chicken a la Carte (Video)

    By Life-Musings.com | April 16, 2009

While we in the developed world have more than enough to eat and use, and are in fact suffering from physical diseases arising from excess, many others are dying of starvation. Statistics vary depending on their source, but thousands worldwide could be dying of hunger… DAILY.

This short 6-minute video clip, which was part of the Short Film Competition at the 56th Berlin International Film Festival, presents a sobering view of what happens to the food which we throw into our trash cans. Read the rest of this entry »

Waiting For The Answers We Seek

    By Life-Musings.com | March 30, 2009

Often times in life, we have questions which we are desperately seeking answers for. We look, we search, we dig, we scrape, we pray, we beg. No answer.

This short video clip shows American Congressman Ron Paul speaking to CNN’s TJ Holmes, while he was at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) 2009. Ron Paul was a former presidential candidate.

If you don’t already know about Ron Paul, please do. He comes across as a genuine good man, with excellent philosophies on liberty, health freedom, politics, government, and other issues. Unfortunately, and not at all surprisingly, he doesn’t seem to get much publicity. Read the rest of this entry »

Humans Are Stripping The Earth Bare Through Overconsumption

    By Life-Musings.com | March 30, 2009

Human beings and modern civilization are plundering nature at a rate never seen before. If current trends were to go on, we will need the natural resources provided by two Earths by the year 2050. And that’s assuming we have not exhausted Earth’s resources by then. This and other details were revealed by a report published by the World Wildlife Fund and the Global Footprint Network, according to MSNBC in Oct 2006.

Has trends changed since then? Unlikely. If anything, with countries like China and India exploding with economic growth, it is more than likely that our overuse of resources is worsening, rather than getting better. Read the rest of this entry »

Is Consumerism The Only Way To Give Our Children Something To Look Forward To?

    By Life-Musings.com | February 20, 2009

If you have not already noticed by now, I often rant against modern day consumerism and materialism.

Quite simply, I think it is an empty shell which does not satisfy the human soul; perhaps it pleases, but only superficially and fleetingly. And it is most certainly not sustainable. At the rate the first world is consuming (to the detriment and exploitation of the third world, may I add), there will be no more “world” left for all of us soon. Very soon. Is Modern Civilization Crumbling?

    By Life-Musings.com | February 19, 2009

Modern civilization as we know it is extravagant and woefully wasteful. Most people in the developed world are not dying because of lack of food; we are dying from being stuffed full of junk foods.

We spend and waste Mother Earth’s resources at an alarming rate. We not only plunder the environment, we treat animals, our fellow heirs of this planet, with little kindness, stripping their dignity. Heck, we even exploit our poorer human counterparts. Read the rest of this entry »

The media is writing stories to sell. And one thing which sells extremely well is fear. The news, and the media in general, is a lot about fear mongering.

If you don’t take precautions and vaccinate yourself (vaccinations come with a whole host of poisonous chemicals and health risk, by the way. Why I Don’t Follow the Mainstream Media – I Wish to Avoid Being Brainwashed (3 of 5)

    By Life-Musings.com | February 15, 2009

The power and influence of mass media is subtle yet immense. It hits not only our conscious mind, but deep within our subconscious.

Some of us are aware of the negative influences of media. Yet we continue to indulge in it. Why? Because most of us think “we are different”, that somehow we are sufficiently in control of ourselves that we would not succumb to its adverse effects. Read the rest of this entry »

Why I Don’t Follow the Mainstream Media – It Presents Only a Small and Biased View of Reality (2 of 5)

    By Life-Musings.com | February 15, 2009

Over seven years ago, I was fixated on CNN for 8 to 12 hours every day, allowing the American media to brainwash me on how evil the Taliban regime was, and convincing me, I’m sure among millions of others, to give our mandate for the American military to walk into the country by force and wipe out those evil-doers.

But, in truth, what makes me think that many of the supposed naughty deeds taking place in Afghanistan is not also taking place in many other (unnamed) countries? They most certainly are. But as long as a country is a friend, and especially of economic use, they are okay. Read the rest of this entry »

    Why I Don’t Follow the Mainstream Media – Summary (1 of 5)

I no longer have the newspapers delivered to my home daily. It has been that way for a few years now. I barely read them, and I rarely watch the news on television, too. In general, I follow the mainstream media very little nowadays.

The 8GB Thumb Drive; A Classic Case of the Lures of Consumerism

    By Life-Musings.com | January 11, 2009

The modern world today is one of extreme consumerism, a culture which is doing its part to exploit the third world as well as kill Mother Earth. Consciously or, probably as is the case for most of us, subconsciously, we are fuelling this culture by our actions and habits.

I have a recent personal experience which somewhat illustrates this point. Read the rest of this entry »

The Road Less Travelled; Making a Difference

    By Life-Musings.com | December 26, 2008

Are you a vegetarian for health, environmental and / or humanitarian reasons?

Do you believe and / or fight for the rights of animals, our fellow owners and heirs of planet Earth?

Do you shun the consumerism which is enveloping so many developed and developing countries?

Do you believe in a power far greater than anything we can see or touch, which is the source of all creation, order and, most importantly, love, and which is beyond and bigger than any humanly doctrine or institution?

Do you accord your fellow human beings with respect and kindness, regarding of skin color, social status, wealth, health, gender, or any other obvious or subtle differences, and fight for the rights of the oppressed and marginalized?

Do you feed the hungry, clothe the naked, comfort the afflicted, house the homeless, and embrace the lonely?

Do you seek a deeper meaning and fulfillment in life, and place that above your empty desires and pursuits on the material plane?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, I salute you for journeying on the road less traveled. It is tough, and no doubt you face many obstacles. May you find strength in your chosen vocation(s).

The Story of ‘Monkey See, Monkey Do’

    The Conditioned Elephant

    By Life-Musings.com | December 22, 2008

It is said that when an elephant is “domesticated” or raised in the zoo, a rope is used to limit the area which it is allowed to roam, with one end of the rope being tied to one of its legs, and the other end being tied to a pole.

The little elephant will then be restricted to an area whose radius is the length of the rope. Read the rest of this entry »

When I visit the zoo and see animals holed up in enclosures, cages or tanks, with little room to maneuver and no need to fight for survival or find their own food, one thing goes through my mind – the lions, tigers, leopards, elephants, otters, etc, do not have the chance to fulfill their destiny.
